As we recall, this was one of the first 3 or 4 albums that the amazing Doc Watson made in a remarkable career that continues to this day: issued as an LP in 1965, it is also the first of Doc's records to feature his son Merle, who was still in his teens when this record was made. The Vanguard label --which put out much of Doc's early work --has re-issued this album exactly as it first came out, with good notes by Ralph Rinzler. The 14 songs & tunes include such Watson favorites as LITTLE SADIE, OTTO WOOD THE BANDIT, RISING SUN BLUES, GONNA LAY DOWN MY OLD GUITAR and the amazing flat picked guitar gem BEAUMONT RAG
