TODD CLEWELL 'Sarah Armstrong's Tunes'

TODD CLEWELL 'Sarah Armstrong's Tunes'

  • $13.50

In 1943 Folklorist Samuel Bayard transcribed over 30 fiddle tunes from Mrs. Sarah Armstrong, a fiddler from Westmoreland County in Pennsylvania. On this disc Todd Clewell and several other old-time musicians including Bob Buckingham and Henry Koretzky present their versions of what these tunes may have sounded like as played by Mrs. Armstrong (who was never recorded). Nicely played, with fiddle featured, this is a good group of tunes that will be new to many, some seldom or never heard in the rural south (though there are some overlaps). The 19 tracks include THE BLACK BIRD, JOHNSTOWN GIRLS, ROLLING OFF A LOG, RANAHAN’S MARCH, FAREWELL TO WHISKEY, OLD REEL, SCHOTTISCHE, etc
