This band was evidently the result of a chance parking lot picking session at a festival: the music they make here on this debut album is very much what one would expect at one of the better parking lot sessions: it is hard-core traditional, played with spirit and a decent amount of skill. The group members are new names to me except for guitarist/lead vocalist Jeff Huss (half of the team of Huss & Dalton Guitars) and fiddler Tom Brantley --a former member of Doyle Lawson's Quicksilver and author of a good fiddle LP on the Heritage label years ago. The group goes heavy on Stanley Brothers material, with performances of I ONLY EXIST, SWEETEST LOVE, TRUST EACH OTHER, I'LL JUST GO AWAY, DON'T GO OUT TONIGHT, KITTEN & THE CAT and NEXT SUNDAY DARLING IS MY BIRTHDAY. But they also tackle (well) a couple of unexpected songs in SHUT UP IN THE COAL CREEK MINES and a nice but seldom recorded Si Kahn song, GO TO WORK ON MONDAY. A solid & enjoyable album.
