SKIP GORMAN & THE WADDIE PALS 'Dogie Music'

Skip Gorman has had a number of records out in the past few years, among them a couple of very nice albums featuring his Monroe-style mandolin playing. This one is quite different, but equally successful, as Gorman is joined by several old-time musicians in a 16-cut presentation of authentic old western songs & tunes. Gorman has the voice and feel for this material, and there’s a good variety in the treatments, which range from sparse solos to peppy string band pieces. Ruthie Dornfeld (fiddle), and Tom Sauber (fiddle, banjo & mandolin) are among 4 musicians who add nicely to a very friendly record—one that is carefully structured but at the same time very relaxed and informal. Very nice versions of STREETS OF LAREDO, WYOMING HOME, BUDDIES IN THE SADDLE, OLD CHISHOLM TRAIL, STREAK OF LEAN STREAK OF FAT, and BROWN SKIN GIRL DOWN THE ROAD
