COX FAMILY 'Everybody's Reaching Out For Someone'

COX FAMILY 'Everybody's Reaching Out For Someone'

  • $13.50

This excellent family group from Louisiana started on its own private label, then was signed by Rounder where they made this fine album and helped Alison Krauss with her only gospel record(ROU-0307 $13.50). Krauss is heard on this recordingplaying fiddle and sharing some vocals with Suzanne and Evelyn Cox--they are especially effective on two gospel songs, STANDING BY THE BESIDE OF A NEIGHBOR and WHEN GOD DIPS HIS PEN OF LOVE. Band patriarch Willard Cox takes part in two nice old-timers, WHY NOT CONFESS and LITTLE WHITE WASHED CHIMNEY, and Suzanne & brother Sidney do a good job on the hit they wrote for Ms. Krauss, I'VE GOT THAT OLD FEELING. Most of the tracks here are Bluegrass, but a few are modern country. Looking back, it seems a shame that this talented group pretty much faded out of the picture when they signed with a major label(Asylum) which lost interest in them after one so-so LP. Being contractually tied up with no further recordings for a couple of years, they lost the momentum that they had going for them. Had they stayed with Rounder, they may well have become one of the more popular groups of the time with their wonderful singing ability.
