LILLY BROTHERS AND DON STOVER 'Bluegrass at the Roots - 1961'

  • $15.00

Noted old-time musician and authority Mike Seeger recorded this fine album for Mo Asch’s amazing Folkways label in 1961. It is probably the best of all this band’s records short of their classic Event masters (which are $ 13.50 available on REB-1688-CD). The album is pretty evenly divided between a full Bluegrass band sound (tracks 9-18) and the duets of Everett & Bea Lilly, most of the songs taken from the repertoire of the Monroe Brothers. Thanks to Don Stover’s brilliant banjo work, there’s plenty of punch to the full band cuts. A wonderful collection of Bluegrass and old-time duets from this group which is in the IBMA’s Hall of Honor. LITTLE ANNIE, SALT RIVER, WAVES ON THE SEA, WHERE IS MY SAILOR BOY, etc.
