BLUE HIGHWAY 'Marbletown'

BLUE HIGHWAY 'Marbletown'

  • $13.50

After 10 years this fine group continues to issue top-flight contemporary Bluegrass—amazingly, with the same five member cast that it started out with on its superb debut album (REB-1719 IT’S A LONG, LONG ROAD $13.50). Strong instrumentally (Rob Ickes dobro and Tim Stafford’s lead guitar are features), they are even stronger vocally, with three excellent singers in Stafford, Shawn Lane and Wayne Taylor. Apart from two songs, the numbers are all group originals and they hold up well, with two especially fine songs in I USED TO LOVE PARADES (sung by Wayne Taylor) and Shawn Lane’s TEARS FELL ON MISSOURI. Quoting the well done notes by Jon Hartley Fox: “These songs pull off the toughest trick in Bluegrass—steering a course between tradition and innovation, sounding old and new at the same time”: they do that and they do it well. LAZARUS, QUARTER MOON, WILD BILL, etc.
