This interesting & enjoyable disc was put together from live recordings made during a national Tour of Traditional Banjo Styles spnsored by the National Council for the Traditional Arts and features 7 very different banjoists ranging from Ethiopian Seleshe Damessae to Ralph Stanley. Apart from the 3 cuts each by Damessae and Irish tenor banjo player Seamus Egan, which may or may not be of much interest to our readers, the bulk of the music on this CD should please most banjo fans. There's some excellent old time music from Kirk Sutphin, Carroll Best and Will Keys, who each have 3 or 4 cuts, then four nice pieces by Tony Ellis and another 4 from Stanley, whose band here is made up of Dudley Connell, Laurie Lewsi, Tony Ellis and Jimmy Trivette--he plays NOBODY'S LOVE LIKE MINE, CHILDREN GO WHERE I SENT THEE, I JUST THINK I'LL GO AWAY and a FRAILING MEDLEY. Connell, Lewsi & Trivette also help in backing the other old time pickers. Good music in a relaxed and enjoyable setting and the disc is attractively packaged and well annotated by Joe Wilson.
