CLAY JONES 'Mountain Tradition'

CLAY JONES 'Mountain Tradition'

  • $12.00

A first rate album featuring the flat-picked guitar work of North Carolinian Jones, who is currently a member of the popular Bluegrass Band Mountain Heart. Apart from Clay’s own considerable talent, two other important factors merge to assure a very successful album, and we can credit Jones for these: an excellent selection of material and a choice lineup of excellent sidemen. We are talking Adam Steffey on mandolin, Ronnie Stewart on banjo, Jason Moore on bass and Jimmy Van Cleve on fiddle. There are also good touches provided by Barry Abernathy and Steve Gulley on vocals, and some nice clawhammer banjo work by Tina Trianosky on nice versions of BLACK MT. RAG and MISSISSIPPI SAWYER. The tunes are solidly traditional, with a nice mix of old-timers (BLACKBERRY BLOSSOM, RUBEN, UNDER THE DOUBLE EAGLE) and Bluegrass (SALT CREEK, ROAD TO COLUMBUS, BIG MON, etc.). Well put together—nice listening.
