ROY ACUFF 'In The Shadow Of The Smokies'

ROY ACUFF 'In The Shadow Of The Smokies'

  • $15.00

Little is currently available by Roy Acuff, once the most popular country singer in the business. This 23-song CD helps to righten that situation, with a good cross-section of the material Acuff recorded for Columbia, his main label during most of his long career. The time period covered by this disc is 1937-1952, with most of the songs cut in the late 1940s and early 50s. Included are some of his typical 40s sound, with accordeon in the band along with Brother Oswald’s trademark dobro. There are three fine instrumentals featuring the great Tommy Magness on fiddle (BULLY OF THE TOWN, GREY EAGLE and PRETTY LITTLE WIDOW). The album omits the hits like WABASH CANNONBALL and GREAT SPECKLED BIRD and presents a nice bunch of the lesser heard songs, like BLUE EYED DARLING, PLINEY JANE, PALE HORSE & RIDER.
