VARIOUS 'Good For What Ails You: Music Of The Medicine Shows 1926-1937'

  • $25.00

North Carolina’s OLD HAT label has produced another amazing piece here with this 2-CD set of 48 songs & tunes that does an outstanding job in sampling the wealth of Medicine-show type material that was recorded in the early days of commercial recording. The 72-page booklet—filled with neat photos & graphics and excellent notes by Marshall Wyatt—is a gem in itself. But there’s a wealth of fascinating music here both from white and black rural traditions. Some of the pieces are more curiosity than good music, but any old-time fan should enjoy the generous amount of quality pieces by such artists as Frank Hutchinson, Carolina Tar Heels, Charlie Parker & Mack Woolbright, Fiddlin’ John Carson, Frank Stokes, Uncle Dave Macon, Charlie Poole, Henry Thomas, Emmett Miller, Gid Tanner and many others. Excellent re-mastering on this highly attractive and enjoyable set!
