HOWARD VOKES 'Songs Of Tragedy & Disaster'

Add To Wishlist

Cowboy Howard Vokes is a Pennsylvanian who was enthralled by country music (especially Jimmie Rodgers and Roy Acuff) early in his life and has spent the past 50 years or so promoting "authentic" country music. He has made a number of recordings himself over the years, mostly 45rpm singles for tiny labels. His most notable work is undoubtedly this collection which appeared as a Starday LP back in the 1960s. With vintage country/western backing, it is just what the album title says, with 16 cuts like WILLIE ROY THE CRIPPLED BOY, SINKING OF THE TITANIC, YELLOW TOMB, PUT MY LITTLE SHOES AWAY, DEATH ON THE HIGHWAY, CYCLONE OF RYE COVE, etc.
