STANLEY BROTHERS 'Songs Of The Carter Family'

STANLEY BROTHERS 'Songs Of The Carter Family'

  • $9.00

Carter & Ralph, the Stanley Brothers were born & raised just a few miles from the Clinch Mountain home of the Carter Family, and obviously must have heard many of the songs that A.P. Carter collected and recorded over the years when the Stanleys were growing up. This budget album is actually a well-conceived and consistent collection that brings together 12 songs from the Carter Family repertoire that the Stanleys and their Clinch Mountain Boys adapted to Bluegrass in their years of recording for the King and Starday labels. In addition to the expected WILDWOOD FLOWER, WEEPING WILLOW and WILL THE CIRCLE BE UNBROKEN, there are nice treatments of LOVER’S QUARREL, ARE YOU TIRED OF ME MY DARLING, LET THE CHURCH ROLL ON, WE SHALL RISE, and the fascinating VILLAGE CHURCHYARD, which the Stanleys convert to a doubletime version featuring Curly Lambert’s mandolin. The CD makes good listening, even for those who will already have all these songs on other albums.
