CHRISTIAN WIG & WHITT MEAD 'Lost Indian: Fiddling On The Frontier'

CHRISTIAN WIG & WHITT MEAD 'Lost Indian: Fiddling On The Frontier'

  • $13.50

This excellent new disc on the dependable Yodel-Ay-Hee label has a couple of subtitles: “Fiddling On the Frontier” and “Old-Time Fiddle & Banjo”. Christian Wig, who has another good album out, is joined here by Whitt Mead and Joe LaRose for a fine 23-cut program of superior old time music. Wig generally plays the fiddle (sometimes using a gourd banjo), with Mead often contributing solid banjo and fiddle work. On good versions of HIGH ON THE TUG and THE BIG SCIOTY Wig & Mead play twin fiddles. A nice 16-page booklet of notes provides a discussion of some fiddlers who had the most influence on this duo: Edden Hammons, Ed Haley, John Salyer, Melvin Wine, Emmett Lundy and Henry Reed. Fine old-time music & recommended.
