This is the third album by this up and coming 4-member band from the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina. The group does its own thing and most likely does not want to be pigeon holed, which is understandable—we mention this only because we have seen Chatham County Line advertised as a Bluegrass band. Though the group plays acoustic instruments (for the most part), and there are elements of Bluegrass here and there (especially in two nice instrumentals, SAVOY SPECIAL and BRICE’S CROSS-ROADS), those expecting Bluegrass will very possibly be disappointed. It’s a funky sound featuring lead singer Dave Wilson’s insinuating, folk-rock style vocals and all original material. On the better songs Wilson & the band can be quite effective: COMING HOME, LONESOME IN CAROLINE and ALL THE LADIES IN THE TOWN are all interesting and well done, and there’s something very nice about the title track. (There is some steel guitar on a few of the songs).
