Writer Eddie Dean, in his superb notes to this new Rebel Vault series re-issue, really captures the genius, talent and mystique that was Jimmy Arnold --the multi instrumentalist from Virginia who packed a lot of living and music into a life that was way too short. Arnold played banjo and fiddle for Charlie Moore, Cliff Waldron and as part of the band Country Store --but in a way that was only a footnote to an amazing, sometimes frightening career. Jimmy was fascinated with many aspects of life and music, and was always willing to learn something new. He learned from legends like Tommy Jarrell and Andy Boarman, and became a legend himself. This wonderful album presents a generous 17 cuts, mostly featuring great banjo picking (that originally appeared on two early Rebel Lps (Strictly Arnold and Rainbow Ride). There are 3 tunes from his classic topical LP, Southern Soul, as well as three fine tracks that were never previously issued (including two fine guitar pieces)
