VASSAR CLEMENTS & TONY RICE 'Vassar Clements & Tony Rice and the Low Country All-Star Band'

  • $13.50

Recorded live at Randy Wood’s Concert Hall in Georgia in December of 2004, this is a dandy album that features a lot of fine, spirited playing, especially by Tony Rice and Clements (Vassar died 7 or 8 months after these recordings were made, but he was in good form here). The other pickers are Scott vestal on banjo, Tony Williamson on mandolin, Warren Amberson doing some vocals and Vassar’s cousin Carroll Clements on rhythm guitar. The neat thing here is that the group plays mostly good standard songs & tunes that everyone is fully familiar with, and an enthusiastic crowd helps the pickers to really let loose. For those who love to hear Tony Rice’s amazing guitar work, there’s plenty of it here on tunes like BILLY IN THE LOW GROUND, SALT CREEK, GROUNDSPEED, LONESOME FIDDLE BLUES and WHEEL HOSS. A well-recorded and most enjoyable Bluegrass album that contains some of the finest currently available examples of Vassar Clements’ fiddling.
