After three wonderful straight Bluegrass albums, Valerie Smith has turned out this fine all gospel recording that is produced by Alan O’Bryant and Becky Buller. There’s a variety of material here, and Valerie handles every piece well, though in our opinion the material overall is not quite as strong as on her previous records—Ms. Smith is most at home on Lisa Aschmann’s RAISE THIS RIVER and BLOSSOMS ON THE ALMOND TREE and Claire Lynch’s WINGS TO FLY: these songs seem like they were just made for Valerie. A very nice album by a singer with a real style and a load of talent.
