This band is one of a few that started out as strictly a gospel group, then entered the full Bluegrass circuit. It’s a very proficient and tight group that has a good album here, nicely produced by Rob Ickes, who also plays dobro on a couple of cuts—Sonya Isaacs and fiddler Jimmy Van Cleve also lend helping touches to a solid disc. Overall, their sound is not that different from a number of good young bands who are following in the footsteps of the Lonesome River Band and/or Blue Highway. If there is a distinguishing feature here, it’s the excellent, very clean, sprightly mandolin work of Rob Baker. Guitarist and lead vocalist Tim Shelton and bass player Randy Barnes are other names that are recognizable for their work with other groups in the past. As might be expected, the group really shines on the one gospel cut, Roscoe Reed’s WHEN I GET HOME, sung A cappella here. A nice mix of old and new songs includes DOUGLAS GRAVES, HANDSOME MOLLY, PICTURE OF YOUR MOTHER, BEFORE THE NEXT TEARDROP FALLS, etc.
