Most Bluegrass guitarists will at least have heard of Wayne Henderson, who is a semi-legendary guitar builder from the back mountain country of southwestern Virginia. A student of the late E.C. Ball, he learned how to get an unusually fine tone out of a good guitar, and the relatively few instruments he can build are treasured by their owners, who include rock artist Eric Clapton (there is actually a book out by Allen St John, titled "Clapton's Guitar --Watching Wayne Henderson build the perfect instrument"). Wayne not only builds and repairs guitars --he can play the fire out of them too. He is especially adept on old fiddle tunes, and that's what fills most of this 21-track disc. At times he gets a bit carried away, with some random, superfluous noting, but for the most part it's fine, thrilling guitar picking by a great musician. Tunes include SALLY ANNE, LITTLE MOSES, SALTY, JOHN HARDY, WHEELS, BLACK MT. RAG, TEMPERENCE REEL, etc.
