For any who appreciate good Bluegrass gospel music (or great gospel music of any kind), this is one of the loveliest albums that you'll find anywhere. Kenny & Amanda Smith have put out three previous records, all secular material, and they are building up a big and loyal following throughout the eastern and southern USA. A gospel album is something they have wanted to do for years, and this one was worth waiting for. What makes it so special? Start with the absolutely beautiful singing of Amanda Smith, complement with Kenny's very nice harmonies (as well as leads on a few songs), obtain a wonderful program of well-chosen songs, add stellar & tasteful picking, and make use of a superb recording studio: it's a recipe that is often attempted but seldom achieved this successfully. The songs are a fascinating mixture of new compositions and songs from the Southern gospel quartet tradition (such as Squire Parsons' A GREAT BIG HAND, STEPPING ON THE CLOUDS, and Luther Pressley's SHOUTIN' TIME (with guest Rhonda Vincent sharing a great solo & duet with Amanda). Kenny is featured on the poignant & lovely ANGELS CALLING AT MY DOOR & provides much superb guitar work throughout the disc. Wade Mainer's I CAN'T SIT DOWN may be the only recognizable title for many, but every track here is a gem. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
