Bill Carlisle --whose career in music dates to 1929 with his brother Cliff --was a presence on WSM's Grand Ole Opry from 1953 until just before his death in 2003. Though he made quite a few fine musical recordings in the 1930s for the Bluebird, Decca and other labels, he was better known for his comic & novelty songs as leader of the group called THE CARLISLES. This 26 song collection pretty well documents their career with the Mercury label, which accounted for their best known recordings from 1951 to 1956. Unfortunately the disc does not include their biggest hits: NO HELP WANTED, TOO OLD TO CUT THE MUSTARD, and IZ ZAT YOU MYRTLE.
