It's certainly a unique occurrence to find Little Roy Lewis and Earl Scruggs on the same record, but here they are helping out a new talent, Ms. Lizzy Long on this 14-track CD which also includes a separate DVD. Ms. Long sings here, sometimes joined by Scruggs and/or Lewis and her voice is pleasant, while not exceptional. She is pictured holding a fiddle, but apparently plays that instrument on just one tune, OBELISK FLOUR (a banjo tune written & played by Scruggs); other fiddle work is handled by Andy Leftwich and Aubrey Haynie: (Ms. Long also plays a good 5-string banjo on two tracks). Other backup musicians include Cody Kilby, Mark Fain, Ben Isaacs and Rob Ickes (dobro). It's nice to hear Scruggs singing duets with Ms. Long on THE BLUEBIRDS SINGING FOR ME, GOTTA TRAVEL ON and ALL THE GOOD TIMES. There's a decent amount of good picking going on here, but much of it is dampened by unnecessarily heavy drums. In short, it's a disc that delivers less than expected.
