This is a wonderful new collection of spirited old-time music by four players who are all well steeped in the music of the Danville, Va. area, specifically in the Charlie Poole tradition: Jeremy Stephens, Kinney Rorrer, Kirk Sutphin & Darren Moore. Along with some Charlie Poole standards like WHITE HOUSE BLUES, MILWAUKEE BLUES, and SWEET SIXTEEN, they play other dance tunes in that style like LYNCHBURG TOWN, RICHMOND, FORTUNE, SILVER TRUMPET, RODES DIVISION, FOURTEEN DAYS IN GEORGIA, JUBILO and BIRDIE, and they also throw in a few very nicely done Carter Family style songs with guitar & autoharp: SWEET FREEDOM, I CAN NOT BE YOUR SWEETHEART, ANCHORED IN LOVE and RECKLESS MOTORMAN. A generous helping (24 songs & tunes) of really nice music here, played with spirit and skill.
