HARRY & JEANIE WEST 'Smokey Mountain Ballads'

HARRY & JEANIE WEST 'Smokey Mountain Ballads'

  • $13.50

Heavily influenced by the brother duets of the 1930s, Harry & Jeanie were from the southern mountains (Harry from Lee County, Va., and Jeanie from Asheville, N.C.) but were living in New York City when these recordings were made in 1958 for the tiny Esoteric label. Singing and playing in a style similar to the Monroe Brothers, with guitar & mandolin or two guitars, they became popular in the early years of the “Folk Revival”, also recording early LPs for the Stinson, Prestige, Riverside and Folkways labels. A nice program of 17 songs includes BLACK JACK DAVIE, LONESOME DOVE, GOODBYE MAGGIE, RAMBLING BOY, PRETTY POLLY, etc
