Our first thought on seeing this new release was that it was a collection of re-issued tunes taken from old New Lost City Ramblers LPs and other recordings that Seeger made for the Folkways label in a long career. But actually it's an all new album, which is a surprise in that this label (Smithsonian Folkways) has pretty much limited its releases to re-issues from the huge Folkways catalog compiled in the 40s, 50s and 60s by the late Moe Asch. Seeger has a nice record here, with 28 tunes covering a variety of old time acoustic guitar styles. He uses a variety of guitars, and some of these are pictured in color in an attractive 36 page booklet of notes. Lots of interesting and classic pieces here, some from the parlor guitar tradition, some from blues artists, etc. WEARY LONESOME BLUES, WILDWOOD FLOWER, SPANISH FANDANGO, GUITAR RAG, JOE LEE'S TUNE, CARROLL COUNTY BLUES, etc.
