The brief notes to this excellent new CD explain that the 11 tunes here were leftover cuts from the band's 2004 recording "Reap What You Sow". Well, they certainly are not inferior to the music on that disc, and they make up another fine collection very similar to their previous two releases. There's no singing on this album, just solid old-time flavored string band music driven along nicely by the excellent fiddling of Stephen "Sammy" Lind. Though the group definitely has an old time sound, it includes 5-string banjo by P.T. Grover in a Scruggs style rather than clawhammer --his playing is solid & driving, but never obtrusive. The group's style is reminiscent of the late Virginia fiddler John Ashby --it's not a coincidence that 3 of the tunes here are credited to Ashby: MARY WANTS A LOVER, JAYBIRD DIED WITH THE WHOOPING COUGH, and SLEEPY LOU. Other tunes are credited to John Salyer, Stripling Brothers, Ernie Carpenter and Rafe Stefanini among others. Fine music, and well recommended. MUDDY CREEK, BIDDY, ICY MOUNTAIN, JEFF CITY, etc
