At this stage of a very distinguished career, Doyle Lawson has a huge number of recordings behind him, both sacred and secular, but let's not ever take any of these for granted--especially his many gospel albums, none of which has ever been less than excellent. This newest disc is another gem that will be a joy to his many fans. As usual, every part is sung to perfection, the arrangements are well worked out but not pretentious, and Lawson has come up with another great selection of material, divided roughly between new and old. There are a couple of good songs by Dee Gaskin (a current writer whom Doyle favors), and one by the Easter Brothers. And it's great to hear the group's marvelous treatment of Alton Delmore's WHAT SHALL I DO WITH JESUS, Mac O'Dell's WHEN THE HAND OF GOD COMES DOWN, the Fred Rose classic THE BLACK SHEEP RETURNED TO THE FOLD, and two by the great writer Luther Pressley: HE MADE IT ALL RIGHT and PRESS ON O PILGRIM. This gets our HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
