There has always been a rich tradition of rural music in our home county in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, since the days of the old Floyd County Ramblers. This new 18 track CD shows some of what's going on there today. There is quite a bit of variety, with Bluegrass, Old Time, Folk and Blues, and there are some quite nice pieces, though much of the playing & singing is pleasant but average. Most successful are two excellent old time cuts by Mac Traynham & friends, and a banjo version of COMIN' ROUND THE MOUNTAIN by Barry Collins. Snake Hollow String Band also offers a pair of interesting old time pieces. Some of the other artists are Compton Family, Carlton Harmon, Highway South, Windfall and the 87 year old Stanley Lorton. Songs & tunes include DIXIE GIRL, JITTERBUG SWING, GREEN ROLLING HILLS, ACROSS THE SEA, EAST TENNESSEE BLUES, BEANS & CORNBREAD, etc.
