Although J.D. Crowe’s name is magic to most Bluegrass fans, here’s
an album that most will probably want to pass by. Recorded in the last days of
the STARDAY/KING label, it was never issued until much later, and though it
features Tony Rice and Larry Rice alongside J.D., the record is marred by steel
guitar and tasteless drumming and percussion (there may be some piano there
too, though I didn’t notice it through all the other racket). The 10 songs are also
basically non-Bluegrass material, though Crowe later did similar material to
better effect.
