has issued this 17-track compilation of songs and tunes associated with Bill
Monroe, but played by an impressive list of artists over the 50 year history of the
Rebel label. It's a gem and is bargain priced in the label's Vault Master series. A
small sampling of the music here includes cuts by Red Allen (CLOSE BY), Don
Rigsby (KENTUCLKY WALTZ), Jim & Jesse (UNCLE PEN), Mac Wiseman
(FOOTPRINTS IN THE SNOW), Tony Rice (A GOOD WOMAN'S LOVE) and
Kenny Baker & Bobby Hicks' TALLAHASSEE. There are also songs by Peter
Rowan, Del McCoury, Lonesome River Band and Ralph Stanley. Lots of great
