This old-time group at its best reminds us of the old Highwoods String Band, which is not surprising since the group features a two fiddle sound, and one of the fiddlers is former Highwoods member Walt Koken (Clare Milliner is the other). Pete :Peterson (banjo), Hilary Dirlam (bass) and Kellie Allen (guitar) are the others. The singing here is pretty funky, but only about a third of the 18 tracks include any. Fortunately the instrumental ensemble playing is quite strong and enjoyable, with a lot of good tunes like LIZA JANE, CHINQUAPIN HUNTING, GOING TO TOWN, CUMBERLAND BLUES, POLLY PUT THE KETTLE ON and a very nice RHYMER'S FAVORITE.
