Ms. Spencer is a good oldtime fiddler who has put together a generous number of fine tunes (20 of them) in producing a very enjoyable record. There's a good variety of breakdowns, waltzes, and a few songs from various old time sources like the Carter Family (YOU DENIED YOUR LOVE, SINGLE GIRL). Accompaniment is supplied by a cast of at least 13 other musicians including Joseph DeJarnette on guitar and there's some good clawhammer banjo work by Mark Ward on a few tunes. Fiddle tunings are supplied for each of the tunes. Among the best cuts are very nice versions of BENTON'S DREAM, TOMAHAWK, COTTON EYED JOE, ROARING RIVER, THE COO-COO BIRD and CHUCK IN THE BUSH.
