Solivan is a name that we have heard more and more of in the past 3 or 4 years, and this new disc on the Compass label is an interesting concept that hasn't been tried very often lately. Solivan brings in some of his family members, plus good friends who happen to be musicians, and other artists who are heroes of his. While Frank takes the lead on many of the songs, at least 3 are done nicely by Frank's cousin, Megan McCormick and there are cuts that feature Frank's Mom and Dad. An extensive list of musicians includes Del McCoury, Sam Bush, Mike Munford, Rob Ickes, Ronnie McCoury, and Jerry Douglas. Frank, of course sings and plays mandolin (and some fiddle), and Jim Hurst adds his guitar talents to THE FISHING SONG. The songs are pleasant enough, with very nice treatments on PUT ME IN YOUR POCKET, LEAVING ON A JET PLANE, I STILL MISS SOMEONE and DARK HOLLOW.
