A number of singers in a variety of fields have recorded songs by the legendary Woody Guthrie, in some cases dedicating an entire album to this well known folk hero. But this new CD is, I think, the first entire album of Guthrie songs by a Bluegrass artist. What is different about this CD is that Del and his band have put music to twelve songs that Woody Guthrie wrote but never recorded. The titles are interesting and Del's band does a fine job in presenting them --although we are partial to Bluegrass, we are glad to see that McCoury was chosen for this project before someone else got the idea. Songs include NEW YORK TRAINS, CALIFORNY GOLD, CHEAP MIKE, THE GOVERNMENT ROAD, FAMILY REUNION, etc.
