The latest incarnation of West Virginia’s Big Possum Stringband builds their robust sound around the powerful fiddling Tessa Dillon. In the style of the preceding generation of string band musicians, they provide detailed information about the provenance of each tune. Nonetheless, Big Possum also reaches out including not just the music of Bill Monroe and Kenny Baker, but a song from Americana outlaw Billy Joe Shaver. Good stuff.
