This attractively packaged album, is the third in a series of recordings drawn from Appalshop's annual festival of Appalachian music, and may be the strongest of the three. Culled from 1987-1994 recordings, there are some just average cuts, but on the whole the music is of good quality, and there are some first-class performances, including tracks by CLYDE DAVENPORT, ETTA BAKER, WHIT SIZEMORE , MELVIN WINE and SNAKE CHAPMAN. All in all, a nice representation of some of the many traditions still alive in the mountains of the rural South.
