Floyd Country Store owner revives old-time, bluegrass outlet County Sales

Today, he re-opened the door at County Sales, the bluegrass and old-time CD retailer and mail-order business that closed in January, after 44 years in Floyd. He bought stock from the store’s longtime owner, David Freeman, and took over rent on the business at downtown’s Talley Alley, off West Main Street. County Sales began in October, 1965 as a mail order company in New York City. It's founder Dave Freeman, started the business as an offshoot of County Records, a record company dedicated to preserving and celebrating authentic rural music of the South. In 1974 Dave Freeman moved his family to Floyd County, Virginia and moved the business into the basement of the old Floyd's Theatre, a 150 seat Pix movie theater, on Talley's Alley in downtown Floyd, VA.
